WHJA Fall Show- Schedule Change
Click on WHJA Prize Book to the left for the Revised WHJA Fall Show Schedule.
We've made some changes to the schedule based on feedback received from participants of the June show. Please keep in mind that one of the factors in changing the schedule is the fact that ponies must be measured (or already have permanent cards) before competing. We're trying to not force them to be in to measure first thing in the morning and then not be allowed into the ring until the end of the day. Juniors can also be measured at our competition and receive a permanent card based on that measurement but since we don't restrict the heights of our Junior classes, they are not required to be measured and therefore the constraints are not the same. We tried to structure the classes in ascending height in order to accommodate people's requests to be allowed to jump their lower fence height classes first. ** Note, if we have any small/medium ponies (which has not been the case at other shows this season) we are planning to have them all hack in a combined under saddle class immediately following the LARGE pony over fences classes. Thanks! The WHJA Board

Clarification to WHJA Recognition for Perfecta Horse Show
Important note for WHJA Members:
It is with regret that the WHJA Board is informing you that the Perfecta Farm Horse Show at Ledges on August 12-15 will not be recognized this year for WHJA Local Points. As with all show recognitions for our organization, we must receive the forms before the 30 day deadline. WHJA implemented this rule in fairness to our membership so all barns and trainers have the same amount of time and information to decide if they would like to patronize any specific shows. We do our best to inform everyone on our web site (www.whja.org) and list shows in our news items as we receive new recognition forms. We hope that Perfecta Farm will have their show recognized again in the future. Thank You, The WHJA Board

USHJA Hunter Restructure Committee Hard At Work
The USHJA has been focusing on the Hunter side of the equation through the hard work of the Hunter Restructure Committee. This Committee has been charged with developing ideas that will add more interest and excitement to the Professional Hunter divisions. Some new rules related to this project have been proposed for the 12/01/2010 show season that will interest all Hunter competitors and trainers. Other changes will be implemented in 12/2011. You can learn more about these exciting new opportunities by clicking on this overview of the Hunter Restructure Rule Change Proposals. (Note; this is a PDF document and might take a few moments to load & open.)
Also keep an eye on the USHJA.org Web site for more information and a video, available soon, that will explain the proposals in more detail and also offer the opportunity to comment on the changes.

IMPORTANT USEF Rule Change - Effective APRIL 1, 2010
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE USHJA REGARDING THE USE OF NSAIDs---RULE CHANGE EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 1, 2010
February 17, 2010, Lexington, KY
USHJA would like to ensure that our members are aware of the recently approved rule changes regarding drugs and medications. Beginning December 1, 2011, exhibitors may give only one NSAID, rather than two, to horses in competition due to the harmful effects overuse of these substances can have on the animal's health and well-being. (GR410.1)
PLEASE NOTE: In preparation for this change, the Federation Board of Directors approved an interim rule (GR410.4), which will be in effect from April 1, 2010 through November 30, 2011. Members will be permitted to give two NSAIDs in accordance with current rules regarding the administration of NSAIDs, provided an NSAID Declaration Form is filed with the show office prior to the horse competing.
The complete rule change reads as follows:
GR410 Equine Drugs and Medications, The Therapeutic Substance Provisions.
[Chapter 4. Drugs and Medications] Effective 4/1/10:
4. Restrictions concerning the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are as follows:
Effective April 1, 2010 and through November 30, 2011, at which time only one of the substances listed in (a) through (f) above will be permitted, a maximum of two substances listed in (a) through (f) above are permitted to be present in the same plasma or urine sample, only if both substances are reported on a Federation NSAID Disclosure Form and filed with the competition prior to the horse competing (GR411 does not apply).
Click here to read the rule change as it appears on USEF's website.
Under the current USEF rules, no more than two of the seven approved and quantitatively restricted NSAIDs are permitted in a horse while competing at a Federation licensed competition. The one exception to this rule is that currently phenylbutazone (bute) and flunixin (Banamine) are a forbidden combination, and are never permitted together in the horse at the time of a competition.

Are you a High School Equestrian? Read more here...
Many high school equestrian athletes don't get the credit or acknowledgment they deserve for the time, hard work, and accomplishments achieved through riding. The USEF has created a program to recognize young equestrians' accomplishments consistent with other high school varsity programs. You can “letter” in riding, thanks to USEF!
YOU can participate in this program if you are a high school student. You don't need anything from your school to participate, but you do need to enroll in the program! (and be a USEF member).
Important note: this program is meant to run from June 1 – May 31 each year. That means participants will be able to count any hours and competitions from June 1 through May 31, so anything you did last summer and fall will count as long as you turn in your log on time!
For more information, go to: http://usef.org/_IFrames/Youth/highschool/highschool.aspxbr>

Trainer & Farm Directory Available Here!
The WHJA has added a new feature to our Web site - a Trainer & Farm Directory. We frequently receive inquiries from people seeking information about hunter & jumper resources in Wisconsin, particularly looking for local barns and trainers. We've asked Member trainers and farms to provide information about their services and facilities and we are happy to make this resource available on-line. If you are a trainer or farm and would like to be included, send your information to kathehoffmann@gmail.com.
Click Here for the Trainer Directory
We hope to update the Trainer Directory once a month, and keep it current! In order to do that, we will need your assistance; when changes occur - let us know!
